Fire Safety & Prevention

Fire is the third leading cause of accidental death in the United States. Most fatalities are the result of smoke/gas inhalation and occur overnight while victims are asleep.

To help protect you and other members of your household, the Shaker Heights Fire Department recommends a three-point program:

  • Minimize fire hazards using our Fire Safety Checklist
  • Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors or a professional alarm system
  • Have – and practice – a home fire escape plan
