What was the Listening Project?

The Listening Project was a community-wide initiative to listen to residents and encourage residents to speak out and have community conversations about any concerns and suggestions regarding police policies and practices, and particularly concerning any real or perceived bias in policing in the city. Through a combination of in-person and virtual public meetings, the Listening Project also included discussions about specific police policy and practice reform proposals, the City’s Mental Health Response Program, and a public records repository.

A professional consultant, Boston-based Strategy Matters, facilitated this Listening Project during the spring and summer of 2024.  Strategy Matters gave a presentation of its findings at the Oct. 15, 2024 City Council meeting. The Community Advisory Group will review these findings over the coming months.
