Advisory Group members are needed to help guide the Recreation Strategic Plan
The City of Shaker Heights is undertaking a Recreation Strategic Plan that will set the stage for future recreation investments throughout the city. The Plan will focus on key locations for future recreational facilities or amenities: Shaker Heights Middle School, Thornton Park, Chelton Park/Shaker School District Bus Depot, and the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Building/Colonnade area.
The Plan will provide a comprehensive analysis of recreation needs and be informed by robust community engagement to reflect the needs of all members of the community. The resulting Plan will include a community needs assessment, evaluate existing conditions and trends, assess community needs for certain facility types and locations, and provide priority uses for each potential site.
As part of this planning process, the Mayor will appoint a 10-15 member Advisory Group to help guide the process. Advisory Group members are expected to:
- Attend up to five advisory group meetings between May 2024 and March 2025
- Encourage their friends and neighbors to participate in surveys and public meetings
- Attend some of the public engagement events
The first Advisory Group meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 at 6 pm. If you are interested in being considered for appointment to the Advisory Group, please complete the short application here by 9 am on April 15, 2024.
Group members will be selected based on their background and interests with the goal of reflecting the diversity of Shaker Heights while allowing for an Advisory Group that is of a manageable size.
