Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the City of Shaker Heights its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The City earned the recognition for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022. This 2022 award marks the 17th straight year the City has earned a Certificate of Achievement.
“I am extremely proud and honored that Shaker is again the recipient of this prestigious GFOA award,” said Mayor David E. Weiss. “Finance Director John Potts and his team have once again demonstrated their dedication to accuracy and transparency in accounting and financial reporting as well as the careful stewardship of the City’s finances. Shaker residents are well served by the professionalism of our Finance Department.”
“The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which include demonstrating a constructive 'spirit of full disclosure' to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report,” according to a GFOA statement.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The GFOA, founded in 1906, represents public finance officials and has more than 20,000 members throughout the United States and Canada.
