The Shaker Heights Landmark Commission established its Preservation Awards program in 1998 to recognize and highlight efforts by property owners who have preserved and improved their properties. This awards program is modeled on a program established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1971.
Exterior projects completed after March 2024 are eligible. Nominations may be submitted for any building in Shaker Heights, including homes and apartment buildings, commercial buildings, and other structures. Award winners are recognized at a modest ceremony and in Shaker Life magazine.
Nominations may be submitted by property owners, architects, or contractors. Projects may be nominated in the following categories:
